Social Media Crash Course for New Real Estate Agents: Everything You Need to Know

Starting a new real estate business can be overwhelming. You’ve just spent the last several months preparing for your exam and now you need to find an agency, figure out how to market yourself, and grow your business, all while navigating a new industry, and a currently crazy housing market. It’s a lot. SO, leave the marketing tactics to us. You can consider this blog your crash course in setting up your social media channels for your budding real estate business.

Setting up your Social Media Accounts

Let’s get down to business – business accounts that is.

Create business accounts on the main social media platforms. This is important for a few reasons. First, it allows you to create content that is specifically tailored to your real estate business and brand. It also allows you to have more control over who sees your content and how they see it. And finally, it gives you access to some pretty great business tools, like analytics.

Not sure which platforms to use? We typically recommend starting with Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (and TikTok if you fancy video with a splash of fun!). These are the most popular social media platforms and they will allow you to reach the widest audience. Plus, they’re relatively easy to use and set-up.

Here’s a quick rundown of how to set-up your business accounts:

Facebook: Go to facebook.com/business and click “Create a Page.” Then, just follow the prompts to get everything entered in and ready to go.

Instagram: Download the app and create an account using your business email (this is important!). Then, go to your profile, click on the three lines in the top right corner, and select “Switch to Business Profile.”

Creating a Content Plan for Your Real Estate Business

The possibilities are endless when it comes to the types of content you can create for your real estate business. But, we recommend starting with these basics:

Posts: These can be a mix of photos, videos, and text. They can be about anything related to your business – new listings, open houses, market updates, tips for buyers/sellers, etc.

Stories: These are short videos or photos that disappear after 24 hours. They’re perfect for quick updates or behind-the-scenes content.

Live Videos: These are, you guessed it, live videos! They’re a great way to connect with your audience in real-time and show them what’s going on with your business.

Now that you know what types of content to create, it’s time to start thinking about when to post it. The best way to do this is to create a content calendar. This will help you keep track of what you need to post, when you need to post it, and any other details (like captions, hashtags, etc.).

Now that you have your social media accounts set-up and you know what types of content to create, it’s time to start thinking about your strategy.

Why is Social Media Important for Real Estate Agents?

In case you’re wondering why all this social media stuff is so important, we’ve got your answer.

As a real estate agent, it’s important to be on social media because:

  • It allows you to build relationships with your clients and potential clients.
  • It gives you an opportunity to show off your personality.
  • It allows you to share your listings and market updates with a wider audience.
  • It’s a great way to generate leads.

Strategies for Growing Your Real Estate Social Media Audience

Now that you know why social media is important, it’s time to start growing your audience. Here are a few strategies to get you started:

Make sure your profile is complete and up-to-date. This includes your bio, contact information, profile picture, and cover photo.

Post regularly and be consistent. Consistency is key when it comes to social media. If you want to grow your audience, you need to show up regularly and post great content.

Engage with your audience. Like, comment, and share other people’s posts. This will help you get on their radar and start building relationships.

Use hashtags. Hashtags are a great way to reach new people and get your content in front of a wider audience.

Run social media ads. Social media ads are a great way to boost your reach and grow your audience quickly.

Stay on top of trends. Social media is always changing, so it’s important to stay up-to-date on the latest trends. This will help you stay relevant and keep your audience engaged.

Track your analytics. Your analytics will tell you a lot about your audience and what’s working (and what’s not). Be sure to check them regularly and adjust your strategy accordingly.

So, there you have it! That’s your crash course for getting started with social media as a new real estate agent. Just remember to start slow, be consistent, and have fun with it! We promise you’ll be a pro in no time.
